The world tends to you-know-what on the dreams people have. But because all things are possible with God, when you have Him as a partner, there’s nothing you can’t do.
Throughout my life, I’ve heard what amounts to the “you’re-being-dumb” message in just about all of its variations. I’ve had what I wanted to do called grandiose, unrealistic, irresponsible, immature, selfish, and a host of other things. I’ve followed the rules and worked exceptionally hard only to watch other people win by cheating or tapping resources I didn’t have access to. I’ve even been told outright to quit. The message that I’m not going to get what I want is a familiar reprise.
So why do I persist? Why should YOU?
For the purpose of helping us lean better on Him, God goes out of His way to defy our biases and small ways of thinking.
Take the story of Gideon and his army (Judges 7). God took his army down from about 32,000 men to just 300 before Gideon fought the Midianites. Why? Because God knew people would think winning with 300 was impossible. He wanted to show them that, through Him, it wasn’t.
Most of us have this horrible habit of assuming what can happen based on what we’ve experienced. We think according to the limitations we understand from the world, not the freedom God inherently has. We can’t really imagine being completely provided for and protected except by our own efforts, either, so we limit ourselves with all kinds of shoulds and musts.
I do not intend to suggest that, as you dream or strive, you ought to deny the reality around you. When Elijah was in danger because of Jezebel and journeyed to Mount Horeb (1 Kings 19), he really was hungry. He really did need rest. That was the truth. But God changed his reality. He sent an angel with bread and water, and because of that, Elijah kept going.
Any dream you have that is in line with the purpose God has for you is worth persisting with. Any goal founded in line with His path can be given to you. No matter how black and thick the tar is that threatens to cover your dreams and goals up, He can make it disappear.
Don’t quit.
